Rae Rae and I did some paddling this afternoon. Nice high tide, due in part to the new moon. Speaking of the new moon this is a great time to do some star watching. Very dark sky here in Cedar Key. Anyway Rachel and I were out in a kayak today at high tide. Periwinkle snails were climbing the needle rush and Spartina grass to get above the tide. Idea. Collect a bunch, and Google a recipe for Periwinkle stew. Raechel began collecting and about 250 snails later and a lot of fun it was bon Appétit.

The small things of life are often so much bigger than the great things . . .
Pickin' eatin' Loquats
Or admiring a miracle like this
Finding a hidden garden
An hibiscus at the island hotel
wildflowers
an hour with friends,
solitary walks,
A gift from good friends
common things that posess uncommon greatness. Like
A Sunday afternoon in Cedar Key.

They lived here.
More than 2000 years ago "shell cultures" inhabited these islands.
During the Archaic and Woodland periods these native Americans constructed many shell mounds and middens; these and the pottery artifacts they created is all that remains.
